From diesel and connectivity to LNG bet: sustainable innovations awarded. The winners of Sustainable Truck of the Year 2019

The sceptres of sustainability in Distribution and Tractor fields were
indeed delivered respectively to Scania L 340 CNG for the emphasis on innovation
and Iveco Stralis NP 460 by virtue of the bet (won) on LNG.
The award Sustainable Truck of the Year, now at the 3rd edition, is promoted by Italian
specialized magazine Vado e Torno and, from next year, it will involve journalists
from European specialized magazines that will form an international jury.

The Sustainable Truck of the Year is delivered to ready-to-go technologies that
represent clean transportation’s state of the art. The 2019 edition of the award has
been handed to the winners during Ecomondo exhibition in Rimini (Italy). Ecomondo
is a fair dedicated to circular economy and renewable energies.

Sustainable Truck of the Year 2019 TRACTOR: Iveco Stralis NP 460
It prides itself to be the first road tractor equipped with a liquid natural gas (LNG)
engine and able to offer competitive performances over long distance journeys for
any kind of transport. The Stralis NP 460 is also the only LNG truck with a range
of 1,500 kilometres and more. It represents a big step forward, compared to the
Stralis 400 NP. The Cursor 13 engine (Otto cycle) features technological upgrades
derived from Ferrari Formula 1 engines: it reduces particulate by 99 per cent, NOx
by 60 per cent and, using biogas, CO2 by 95 per cent. Hi-Tronix transmission is
not only faster and quieter (6 decibels less), but also able to support a first-class
electronic safety equipement that includes: predictive Hi-Cruise, Ecoroll, Hill Holder.
More than 3,000 Stralis NP have been sold in Europe until now.

A vehicle sold in more than 3.5 million units since its launch. Well, while confirming the original architecture and layout, the third generation of Mercedes’ van introduces incredibly innovative elements. First of all, providing also the front-wheel drive, the manufacturer enriches the range with regards to light transportation. Above all, Sprinter traces a new path thanks to the focus on connectivity. For the first time, a modern hardware is integrated into the architecture of the vehicle itself.
